(MIS) UNDERSTANDING CHINESE TOURISTS: ARE YOU REALLY READY

ABOUT

As the second largest economy in the world with a growing middle class in the hundreds of millions which have started to travel the world, Chinese tourists represent today an incredible opportunity for European tourism. The number of Chinese tourists is estimated to increase from 100 million in 2010 to more than 200 million by 2020. As Chinese tourists start discovering the world, they are also becoming increasingly sophisticated in terms of product offer and destinations. The purpose of this program is to shed light on the changing nature of Chinese outbound tourism and help the various stakeholders in the tourism industry to better understand and capture the enormous potential of Chinese outbound tourism to Slovenia and South-East Europe. Should, for example, Slovenian tourism cater to Chinese tourist groups, or the sophisticated adventure seeker? Is there potential to market Slovenia as a spa and wedding destination? What does the Chinese tourist want and how do they make purchasing decisions? These are only a few of the fundamental questions that this program aims to answer. One of the key goals of this program is thus to provide a better understanding of the behavior of Chinese tourists, as well as insight into the different types of Chinese tourists in order to better target them and prepare a more effective offer.
