CONFUCIUS SCHOLARSHIP

“Confucius Institute Scholarships” is program for providing sponsorship to students, scholars and Chinese language teachers of other countries for pursuing a study in relevant universities in China.

CHINESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP

In order to promote the mutual understanding, cooperation and exchanges in various fields between China and other countries, the Chinese government has set up a series of scholarship programs to sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to study and conduct research in Chinese universities. China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC), entrusted by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as MOE), is responsible for the enrollment and the administration of Chinese Government Scholarship programs. Now, 279 designated Chinese universities offer a wide variety of academic programs in Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, Economics, Legal Studies, Management, Education, History, Literature, Philosophy, and Fine Arts for scholarship recipients at all levels.

MOFCOM Scholarship

MOFCOM Scholarship is set up by Ministry of Commerce of People’s Republic of China to further strengthen the communication and cooperation between China and other countries as well as to develop talents for developing countries. Starting from 2015, MOFCOM Scholarship mainly sponsors the young and the middle-aged talents from recipient countries to pursue their postgraduate degree education in China and entrusts China Scholarship Council to administer the Scholarship.

2018 Confucius Institute Scholarship


Age requirement

Applicants should be aged 16-35 (counting until September 1, 2018). For on-job Chinese teachers, the age limit is 45.

Category

  • One academic year scholarship to study Chinese language in China is provided to those who have a score of 180 in HSK 3 exam. The scholarship is for 11 months, with the enrollment time in September 2018.
    Pay attention: this scholarship would not be provided to the foreign students who are studying in China.
  • Four-week scholarship to study Chinese language and stay in Chinese family is provided to those who have score of any level HSK exam. Confucius Institute should gather 10 to 15 students in one group and apply together, contact the receiving University to make sure their study plan in China, and then ask for approval in Headquarters (Hanban) in advance. The time of enrollment is July 2018 or December 2018.
    Pay attention: the scholarship would not be provided to the X1 or X2 visa holder. (X1 visa is given to those who study in China for more than 180 days, while X2 visa is given to those who study in China for less than 180 days.)
  • Special four-week scholarship to Confucius Institute students is provided to those who have score of any level HSK exam. Confucius Institute should gather 10 to 15 students in one group and apply together. The time of enrollment is July 2018 or December 2018.
    Pay attention: the scholarship would not be provided to the X1 or X2 visa holder. (X1 visa is given to those who study in China for more than 180 days, while X2 visa is given to those who study in China for less than 180 days.)

Application period

All the application starts on March 1, 2018 on website cis.chinese.cn

Deadline of application for the scholarships:

  1. April 20, 2018 (For students who enroll in July 2018)
  2. June 20, 2018 (For students who enroll in September 2018)
  3. September 20, 2018 (For students who enroll in December 2018)

The admission result will be announced two months before the enrollment of study. Hanban (Headquarters of Confucius Institute) will conduct an overall assessment of all the applications and admit applicants through a competitive selection process.

1.Log on the above-mentioned CI scholarship website: cis.chinese.cn

2.Check the host institutions

3.Get the recommendation letter from the head of Ljubljana Confucius Institute

4.Create your own account and submit the application materials online

5.Wait for the result of scholarship review and appraisal

6.Scholarship winner contacts the host institution to confirm the formalities to study in China

7.Print the online certificate of the Scholarship

8.Enroll according to the time on the erollment letter from the host institution


Other important notes

  • Applicants can consult the host institutions to get specific information about relevant training programs and teaching courses.
  • Applicants have to know the detailed conditions of enrollment and application deadline in the target host institutions and sumbit the application materials according to relevant requirement.
  • The scholarship would be cancelled for those who cannot enroll in time, or cannot pass the health examination for enrollment or drop out of the study and suspend schooling.

Scholarship Coverage and Criteria

Scholarship winners are exempt from tuition, accommodation fees on campus, and are provided with monthly living allowance (except four-week scholarship winners), and comprehensive insurance for foreign students studying in China.

Monthly living allowances are provided at the following rates (CNY Yuan per month):

a. CNY 2,500 for One-Academic-Year Students.

Comprehensive insurance allowances are provided at the following rates (CNY Yuan):

a. CNY 160 per person for Four-Week Scholarship Students

b. CNY 800 per person annually for One-Academic-Year Students.


Application documents

Applicants should log on to the Scholarship website, fill out the “Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form”, and attach the electronic files of the following materials:

  1. Photocopy of Passport Photo Page
  2. Photocopy of Valid New HSK and HSKK Result Report (Every result report is valid for two years.)
  3. Reference letter from the head of Ljubljana Confucius Institute.
  4. Applicants under the age of 18 shall submit relevant legal documents of entrusted legal guardians in China.
  5. Other materials required by host institutes.
