European Master in Tourism Management

Message from the programme director

EMTM is based on experience of three participating European states that are geographically located in three different parts of Europe and draws from theoretical knowledge of three European Universities that have tourism tradition and provide modern tourism based management knowledge body from different, complementary points of view.

University of Southern Denmark provides students with an advanced understanding of concepts, strategic communication and project management skills and techniques, University of Ljubljana builds on the economic concept and adds instrumental, strategy and policy based management knowledge and skills, and the Spanish University of Girona offers knowledge and skills for implementation management. The first University is the home and secretariat of the BEST Education Network, an international consortium of educators committed to furthering the development and dissemination of knowledge in the field of sustainable tourism. The second University works for Tourism Sustainability Group (TSG) of the European Commission and holds TEDQUAL (Tourism Educational Quality) accreditation and is linked to UNWTO educational network. Located in Girona, close to the world famous Costa Brava, the third University has strong links to industry and implementation of tourism development at destination and local levels.

The indispensable complexity and growth of tourism demands professionals with a far-reaching and integrated understanding of the subject. The EMTM aims at giving students advanced knowledge in tourism management in order to become international professionals, innovative entrepreneurs and consultants, government and public administration officials, tourism business managers, qualified employees, and academic researchers in the field of tourism. This master recognizes that tourism is inherently of a multidisciplinary nature, but the focus of this Master is management of tourism in a proper, e.g. sustainable way.
