Principles of Management in Health Care

Aims of the course

- Obtain the basic knowledge of contemporary strategic and operative management.
- Differentiate between management and governance, as well as between competencies and responsibilities of a health care manager.
- Obtain knowledge of fundamental management functions, such as planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, and types of management (strategic, operative, project).
- Develop skills to develop mission statements, vision statements, strategic objectives, strategy maps, performance measurement systems, and reward systems.
- Understand the importance of good and effective communication in Health Care, in particular in crisis situations.
- Obtain the basic knowledge in the field of change management.

1. Introduction to challenges of strategy development and implementation
2. Balanced Scorecard 3. generation workshops (developing effective strategies for healthcare organizations and other businesses (teamwork on real-life examples)):
- developing Destination Statements
- developing Strategy Maps
- documenting strategic activities
- strategic performance measurement and control, balancing trust and control
3. Crisis communication in health care
4. Communication between health care professionals and their stakeholders - the role of managers
