Aims of the course

Upgrade basic knowledge of the labour market on the middle level.
To develop the understandings of the labour market and its roles in the economy.
Understanding of the relations between theoretical knowledge and labour market institutions.
To develop analytical research competences, especially with the use of the case studies.
To develop ability of the preparation of the policy documents.

3.1 Decision to work. Labour/leisure choice. Income and substitution effects
3.2 Household production, family and life-cycle
3.3 Compensating wage differentials. Analysis of occupation choice
4. Meeting of labour demand and supply
4.1 Investments in human capital. Education and earnings
4.2 Worker mobility
4.3 Pay, incentives and productivity
5. Social framework of the labour market
5.1 Labour market discrimination. Its measurement and programs to diminish it.
5.2 Trade unions and collective bargaining
5.3 Inequality in earnings and its sources
