Aims of the course

- Students gain knowledge on how to apply economic theory to analyze energy markets and environmental problems related to energy activities.
- Students gain understanding of theory and practice of liberalization and regulation of energy markets and currents state and issues related to energy sector reforms.

2. Restructuring of energy sectors: market structure, organisation and ownership
3. Liberalisation and regulation of energy markets
4. Energy industry business strategies in the light of liberalised energy markets
5. Analysis of energy sectors in the world and the EU:
- World oil market
- Electricity industry
- Natural gas industry
6. Analysis of electricity markets:
- Supply and demand
- Wholesale market
- Retail market
- Balancing market
- Electricity trading
- Risk management
7. Energy and environment:
- Kyoto protocol and GHG emissions trading
- Promotion of renewable energy sources (RES)
- Energy efficiency
