Aims of the course

1. To introduce business model concept to students and to show how business model innovation contributes to company success.
2. To develop capabilities of identifying and changing a business model in a company.
3. To raise awareness of main obstacles in designing and implementing innovative business models.
4. To show various business models on practical examples.

Course syllabus

1. Business model definition, value creation and value capture
2. Different views on business models: business model canvas, activity-system perspective, Baden-Fuller's cognitive view
3. Characteristics of a good business model
4. How to implement business model innovation in a company?
5. Main obstacles that prevent established companies to change their business model
6. Business model case studies: Tesla motors, Nespresso, iStockphoto, Xerox, Netflix/Blockbuster
