Aims of the course

- to familiarize students with the rationale for competition policy and for competition policy in the EU,
- to understand instruments, rules and procedures of EU competition policy,
- to understand recent developments of EU competition policy – from public interventions towards decentralization,

Course syllabus

This course is taught over one semester and will cover the following topics:
Rationale for competition policy and for competition policy in the EU,
Phases in historical developments of EU competition policy,
Instruments, rules and procedures of EU competition policy,
Recent developments of EU competition policy – from public interventions towards decentralization,
Role of individual member states in pursuing the goals of EU competition policy.
