Humanistic and Social Issues in Sport

Aims of the course

1. To inform students about the discussed topics of the course.
2. To acquaint students with the study literature and enable them for its critical evaluation and professional use in their studies.
3. To qualify students for the successful preparation of a written seminar paper about the selected topic.
4. To qualify students for scientific/methodological consideration of professional issues in theory and practice.
5. To develop the abilities and skills communicate with each other.
6. By knowledge of institutional development to recognize the tradition and heritage

Course syllabus

1. History of sport (overview of development of sport in international and national context, the role of sport in the society)
2. Philosophy of sport (definition of philosophy of sport; philosophy of sport as a bridge between practice and theory of sport; principles and characteristics of philosophy of sport; structure of philosophy of sport by addressing ontology of sport, teleology of sports, axiology of sport, ethics of sport, aesthetics of sport, essence and existence of sport, gnoseology and epistemology of sport, terminology of sport and kinantropology of sport)
3. Sociology of sport (sociology in the process of social development with special emphasis on sociology of sport in transitional countries; family and family values; ways and byways of elite sport; the heritage from the past, the analysis of the present and the vision of the future; global sport ratio in the world and in transition processes; migration processes and the European sport integration; negative civilization trends and violence in sport)
4. Sport psychology (psychological preparation for competition, role of the coach in sport, leadership and social power, group development, professional sports teams, verbal and nonverbal communication, problem solving techniques, creative thinking techniques)
