Curriculum Vitae
Matej Lahovnik, born 1971, is full professor in management at the Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana. In 1999, he was also a visiting scholar at the Indiana University - Kelley School of Business. In 2000, he has been a head of international research project “Strategic Factors of Acquisitions in the Economies in Transition”. This project was focused on the central-eastern European region and financed by Soros foundation. The result of this project was evaluated with the highest grade. He has participated at several international conferences on the restructuring processes of enterprises in transition economies. Matej Lahovnik was a member of many research teams which have been working on the following projects: “Behaviour of Slovene Enterprises in the Transition Period”, “Strategic Factors of Acquisitions in the Economies in Transition”, “Strategy of the Slovenian Economic Development”, “Successful Competitive Strategies of Companies in Slovenia and Croatia” and »New Finance for Central Europe«. In 2004, he was elected deputy of the National Assembly, and was appointed Vice-President of the Committee on Finance and Monetary Policy, Member of the Committee on Economy and Member of the Commission for Budgetary and other Public Finance Control. He has been a minister of the economy in the Slovenian government in the year 2004 and for the second time in the period 2008-2010. In 2009, he was a chief government negotiator in the fields of Corporate governance and Investments for the OECD membership. In 2011 he was a visiting professor at Caledonian Business School, Glasgow University. He has delivered lectures on the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and he also delivered research training sessions to their doctoral students. He is the author or co-author of many papers published in journals indexed by the SSCI, IBSS and JEL databases. As full professor at the Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana he delivers lectures in the courses of Management and organisation, Strategic management and Corporate Governance.
