Curriculum Vitae
Tomaz Cater was born on 5 June 1976 in Brezice, where he also finished primary school in 1990 and high school in 1994. He continued his education at the Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in 1998, a master's degree in 2000 and a doctoral degree in 2003, all in the field of management and organization. As part of his doctoral studies in 2001 he was a visiting scholar at the Kelley Business School, Indiana University, USA. He received several faculty and other awards for extraordinary academic achievements and final theses at bachelor's, master's and doctoral level of studies. He is fluent in English and Croatian and almost fluent in German. Since 1998 he has been employed at the Academic Unit for Management and Organization, Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana. He first worked as a teaching assistant, then as an assistant professor and an associate professor, and since May 2014 as a full professor of management. His important past and present positions at the Faculty of Economics include Head of Distance Education, Head of the Academic Unit for Management and Organization and Head of the Master's Degree Program in Sport Management. Pedagogically he works as course coordinator and lecturer of several undergraduate (Strategic Management 1, Tactical Planning and Control, Business Economics) and postgraduste (Strategic Management 2, Strategic Management in Sport, Management in Sport, Change Management, Environmental and Natural Resource Management) courses. His main research area is strategic management. The results of his research have been published in recognized scientific journals such as Organizational Research Methods, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Business Economics and Management, and Personnel Review. He is the author or co-author of several papers in scientific monographs, conference papers, university textbooks and other study materials. As a consultant he also transfers his findings to business practice. Professionally he has worked as the co-editor of one foreign scientific monograph, guest editor of one foreign scientific journal, editor of several conference proceedings, and reviewer for several foreign and domestic scientific journals. He was the chairman of the organizing and program committee of the 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th conference of the Union of Economists of Slovenia on Contemporary aspects of business and organization analysis. He works as the president of the Slovenian Academy of Management, the president of the Section for Business Analyses at the Union of Economists of Slovenia, and is a member of several professional and scientific associations in Slovenia and abroad.
