Water

Slovenia is one of the most water-rich countries in Europe. It has numerous thermal springs and mineral springs as well as rivers and lakes. Tap water is drinkable all over Slovenia as it is clean and uncontaminated.

Safety

Slovenia is a safe country. According to the data of the Global Peace Index, Slovenia is ranked among the 10 safest countries in the world. Wherever you are, even late at night in major cities, you have no cause for concern. Although it is very unlikely for you to become a victim of a crime, such things can never be completely prevented. Thefts are the most common crimes, which can be often prevented by acting properly.

We recommend that you:

  • carefully safeguard your belongings, and do not leave them in visible places, for example, in a car,
  • only carry as much cash as you need,
  • keep valuables and large sums of cash in a safe,
  • avoid unlit and deserted streets after dark,
  • lock your car and park in well-lit public areas intended for parking,
  • before leaving home, photocopy all your documents, airline and other tickets, bookings, and similar. In the event of theft or loss, this will make it easier to prove your identity and arrange replacement documents.

Mains Voltage

The mains electricity in Slovenia is 230 V, with a frequency of 50 Hz. Slovenia uses the so-called European plug with the official designation CEE 7/16. This is the plug used in most other European countries. If needed, it is easiest for you if you bring your own adapter with you due to the numerous models of sockets. Otherwise, you can obtain the adapters for most other European plugs and American plugs from the specialist electrical shops.

Currency and Banks

Slovenia adopted the EURO (€) in January 2007.
