The University of Ljubljana, School of Economics and Business celebrates its 80th anniversary
The central event marking the jubilee will be on Sunday, 8 March 2026. The keynote speaker will be Dr Nataša Pirc Musar, President of the Republic of Slovenia.
Over eight decades, the University of Ljubljana, School of Economics and Business (UL SEB) has developed into the central educational and research institution in the fields of economics and business in Slovenia and into one of the most reputable business schools in the wider Central and South-Eastern European region.
Since its establishment in 1946, the UL SEB has systematically developed economic and business knowledge and has made an important contribution to the development of the Slovenian economy, government policies, and society. Through its research work, professional cooperation with organizations, and the transfer of knowledge into practice, it contributes to strengthening the competitiveness of the Slovenian business environment and to the development of innovative business models. Over eight decades, UL SEB has educated tens of thousands of graduates and professionals who today hold leading positions in companies, financial institutions, international organizations, and the public sector in Slovenia and around the world, and who significantly influence economic and social development. The SEB Alumni community today connects more than 13,000 graduates who remain actively linked to the UL SEB as mentors, partners, guest lecturers, and ambassadors of its reputation at home and abroad. The alumni network promotes lifelong learning, professional and personal development, and creates opportunities for cooperation, networking, and new business opportunities. This intergenerational community represents one of the most important sources of the School’s impact – its reach extends beyond the academic environment and is reflected in the real economic and social space.
UL SEB builds its international recognition through high-quality study programmes such as the Ljubljana MBA and IMB, through an extensive network of partner universities, and through strong mobility of students and faculty. The School operates as a hub of knowledge, research, and practice and develops solutions to key challenges of the modern economy, such as digital transformation, sustainable development, and responsible management. A special proof of excellence is the triple international accreditation of UL SEB, awarded by the leading organizations for quality assurance at all levels of business education: AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA. These prestigious recognitions place the UL SEB among the elite percentage of business schools worldwide and testify to excellence in teaching and research, strong links with the business community, and a strategic orientation toward sustainable development. The anniversary of UL SEB is therefore not only a look at a rich tradition, but also a commitment to the future. In a time of profound economic and social change, the School remains committed to developing critical thinking, encouraging innovation, and educating responsible leaders who will create lasting value in organizations and society.
On the occasion of the anniversary, the Dean of UL SEB, Prof. Dr. Tomaž Turk, emphasized: “Eighty years of the School of Economics and Business is a story of people, knowledge, and responsibility. Our students and alumni are those who confirm the School’s impact on the economy and society every day through their work. Triple accreditation places us among the best business schools in the world, while at the same time committing us to remain a space of academic excellence, innovation, and international cooperation in the future. Our vision remains clear: to create knowledge and develop people who will co-create a sustainable and competitive future for Slovenia and the wider region.”
