Students of SEB in Elšnik d.o.o.: entrepreneurial competencies for aluminum decoration in practice
Students learned about the development of the leading Slovenian provider of aluminum fences and aluminum decorative facades, and project work based on design thinking and business modeling at the family company Elšnik d.o.o.
Students of the School of Economics and Business of the University of Ljubljana visited the family company Elšnik d.o.o. on Friday, March 6, 2026, as part of the project Entrepreneurial Competencies for Alu-Decoration (Problem-Based Learning of Students in the Work Environment). The visit provided students with direct insight into the company's operations, which is a leader in Slovenia in the field of aluminum fences and is also intensively developing its aluminum decorative facade program, a segment that creates new opportunities in the market for modern architectural solutions.
Company representatives Matjaž Elšnik and Janja Kaja Elšnik presented the company's development, its sales offering, and key development directions to the students. They particularly highlighted the long-standing cooperation with the company and the aluminum fence brand Guardi, which significantly contributed to strengthening the company's market position and the recognition of quality aluminum solutions. Prof. Dr. Boštjan Antončič presented the project process and the methodological framework of the work, which is based on the principles of design thinking and business modeling.
The visit also brought a rich discussion on key topics of modern entrepreneurship and management. The students gained many useful insights into digital marketing, sales approaches, and strategic thinking, while at the same time discussing with their hosts the sustainable orientation of aluminum products and the company's broader impact on the environment, and the development of quality, sustainably oriented solutions.
