Sailing as a school of entrepreneurship: Gennadi Strakh guest at the Entrepreneurship course
The School of Economics and Business was visited by a top sailor Gennadi Strakh at a lecture given by Prof. Dr. Boštjan Antončič in the Entrepreneurship course, where he introduced students to the connections between sailing, teamwork, goals, and entrepreneurial thinking.
On Wednesday, 6 May 2026, the School of Economics and Business of the University of Ljubljana was visited by Gennadi Strakh, an international master of sports, as a guest at a lecture by Prof. Dr. Boštjan Antončič in the Entrepreneurship course. The visit was dedicated to reflecting on knowledge from sailing and its applicability in entrepreneurship.
Gennadi Strakh is an international master of sports of the former Soviet Union, a long-time member of the Slovenian team in sailing, a categorized international class athlete within the Olympic Committee of Slovenia, and a member of the Sailing Federation of Slovenia and the Jadro Koper Sailing Club. In his rich sports career, he won numerous medals at European and World championships in the Soling and Yngling sailing classes. The lecture offered students a valuable insight into top-level sport, a competitive mindset, and the importance of perseverance. Prof. Dr. Boštjan Antončič highlighted the parallels between sailing and entrepreneurship, for example, through the prism of goal setting, acquiring and combining resources, team building, continuous learning and adaptation, as well as cooperation and competitiveness. The meeting offered students an interesting perspective on how the principles of top-level sport can be successfully transferred to the business environment. The importance of international cooperation with successful individuals was particularly highlighted, as such contacts broaden horizons, bring new knowledge, and strengthen the ambition to achieve excellence.
