What is the most valuable lesson you've learned during your academic journey so far?

The most valuable lesson I have learned during my academic journey is that networking is one of the key factors of business and life because once you gain a good and reliable network e.g. friendships, and colleagues, there isn't anything that is impossible or undoable. I also learned that being selfish and not a team player won't last you long in being successful, because once you start being selfish and unwilling to teamwork and help there will come a time when all of a sudden you will be the one needing help and you will not have anyone to back you up. Hence why a good network, being a teamplayer and being open to help are the most important assets and values you can have in life and business.

Studying is not merely about chasing grades, but it's a journey of self-discovery and self-development. Throughout the years I’ve realized how important it is to perceive every obstacle as an opportunity for growth and never stop exceeding yourself. Since self confidence and good communication fuel success, one should always express personal opinion in the most authentic way possible and never just blindly follow others.

As hard as it is to choose only one valuable lesson, I would say being yourself and believing in yourself can lead to achieving anything one sets their mind to. Continuously pursue greatness and broaden your horizons through learning, networking and daring to take the next step out of the comfort zone.

What is the most valuable lesson you've learned during your academic journey so far?

The most valuable lesson that I have learned during my academic journey so far is that comfort is the enemy of progress. If you keep doing the same things every day, you get caught up in a place with no space for personal development. Facing constant challenges, striving to improve and to learn new things every day is not always easy and sometimes comes with a risk of failure but I believe that in the end it makes you grow and expand your horizons.

What is the most valuable lesson you've learned during your academic journey so far?

I think the most valuable lesson I have learned through the past years is that knowledge and network are the keys. Education is the way how to get both – you gain knowledge while making a network of like-minded people. What makes them priceless is that they don’t lose value over time – the opposite – their value increases.

What is your proudest achievement?

I would say I am mostly proud of the fact that I have already tried and experienced so many things and still kept my focus and continued with the education and job. All of these challenges I have been through and people I have met made my life more “colourful” but I also always knew what should be the base, foundation.

In the meaning of jobs or activities, I am mostly proud of being a part of the team of the “Masks for All” campaign, through which we donated materials for 250,000 washable face masks and received the “Apple of Inspiration” award from the President.

One of the latest achievements was the project I have managed at my job in a marketing agency, which received numerous awards at SOF 2023.

Which words describe you best?

Open-minded, dedicated, adaptable, empathic and soft-skilled.

What is your life motto?

There was one quote that made a special impact on me and I remembered it forever: “Fortune favours the bold.” As I was growing up I started to understand it more and more and realised how powerful it actually is.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I find relaxation most often while hiking or engaging in sports in general. I love nature and a healthy lifestyle, which is why I also have my own garden where I grow my own vegetables. Because I also have an artistic nature, in my free time, I draw and I moderate events, act in movies, TV series and commercials.

Maja Železnikar

Country: Slovenia

Undergrad degree:

University of Ljubljana, School of Economics and Business

Specialization:

Entrepreneurship

What is the most valuable lesson you've learned during your academic journey so far?

I've come to realize how important a combination of theoretical learning and hands-on experience is. Classes and lectures are essential, but the real learning happens when you have to apply all of your knowledge in practical settings. That's when you gain a deeper understanding and become better equipped for both academic and professional journey.

What is your proudest achievement?

In general, I'm proud of effectively managing university, student work and being an active member of Management Group association while maintaining a good average. However, one achievement that holds a special place in my heart is being selected as the Slovenian representative for the European Leadership Academy in Valencia in 2023, where I joined talented women from every EU country in a week full of masterclasses, panel discussions, and team projects.

Which words describe you best?

Organized, ambitious, trustworthy, reliable and kind.

What is your life motto?

My motto is the Stoic saying “The obstacle is the way” by Marcus Aurelius. Instead of viewing obstacles or challenges as failures, I've learned to embrace them and see them as chances for growth, personal development, and fulfilment. This way of thinking has given me the strength to combat challenges and has also encouraged me to be more positive in the face of any setbacks or failures that may occur. Every time I encounter a challenge, I think about the opportunities it presents and what I can gain from it. However, I do not just accept challenges; I actively seek them out and push myself to do things that are challenging. My approach is particularly evident in the fact that I take part in a wide range of contests, programs, and events apart from organizing various projects. In addition, I always strive to uplift and encourage those around me when they encounter hardships themselves.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I like sports, playing the piano, reading, traveling, learning new things and organizing different projects and events as Management Group member.
