Student business models for increasing the visibility of footgolf in Slovenia
On Thursday, August 28, 2025, the final event at the School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana, showcased the results of the student work developed within the project Competences for Supporting Entrepreneurship (Problem-Based Learning for Students in a Work Environment). The focus was on the challenge set by the Footgolf Association of Slovenia: how to increase the visibility of this innovative sport in Slovenia in a sustainable way.
Graduate and undergraduate students Martin Jovanović, Jovan Zlatković, Juš Apostolovski, Luka Rožanc, and Lan Sraka presented a range of business models, innovative proposals, and prototype solutions addressing the key challenge: how to effectively promote footgolf in line with the principles of the green transition and circular economy. Over the course of five months, under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Boštjan Antončič and in collaboration with mentors from the Footgolf Association of Slovenia — Matija Brodnjak, Simon Detellbach, and Klemen Rutar — the students developed concrete solutions that combine innovation, sustainability, and market relevance. Special emphasis was placed on developing business models that would increase footgolf’s visibility across all generations and support its integration into Slovenia’s tourism and sports offerings.
The event once again confirmed the importance of connecting academic knowledge with real-world challenges. The project significantly contributed to the development of student competencies, the strengthening of innovation potential within non-profit organizations, and the overall quality of higher education that aligns with the actual needs of modern society.
