Guest Lecture: Matjaž Sušec
We recently hosted Matjaž Sušec, , Head of Policy Strategy and Institutional Relations at the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) for an in-depth and highly informative guest lecture.
His presentation provided a clear and structured overview of the current macro-financial landscape, demonstrating why a strong grasp of global economic developments is essential for future business leaders and decision-makers. Mr. Sušec outlined the key elements influencing today’s economic environment and explained how these factors shape corporate strategies, investment decisions, and broader market outcomes.
Throughout the lecture, he examined several central themes. He first presented the economic outlook for the euro area, focusing on current expectations for growth and inflation. He then discussed the principal risks to financial stability, outlining how geopolitical fragmentation, fiscal pressures, demographic trends, competitiveness challenges, and climate-related vulnerabilities interact and shape the broader environment. Finally, he elaborated on the structure and growing importance of the global financial safety net (GFSN), explaining how it supports economies in managing shocks and uncertainty. He concluded by highlighting the crucial role of the European Stability Mechanism as the euro area’s crisis-resolution mechanism and its contribution to safeguarding financial stability in times of distress.
