Fireside Chat: Understanding the Global Economic Landscape
The IMB Alumni hosted a fireside chat featuring two distinguished speakers whose work has profoundly shaped economic thought both globally and in Slovenia: Professor Jan Svejnar and Professor Janez Prašnikar. Professor Svejnar is the Richard N. Gardner Professor of Economics and International Affairs at Columbia University, with a long-standing academic career and extensive advisory experience with international institutions such as the World Bank, the EBRD, and numerous governments. He was joined by Professor Prašnikar, Professor Emeritus at the School of Economics and Business and founder of the IMB Programme, who is widely recognised as one of Slovenia’s leading economists and a pioneer of empirical economic research in the region.
Their discussion focused on the current global macroeconomic environment, the role and positioning of the European Union in relation to the United States, China, and other key global actors, and the implications of these dynamics for companies operating in Slovenia. Particular attention was given to how firms can prepare for an increasingly complex, uncertain, and rapidly changing international economic landscape.
The conversation was moderated by Metka Hrovat, Chief Brand & HR Officer at SIP and an experienced executive in organisational development, leadership and brand strategy. Her guidance ensured a focused and engaging exchange.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Professors Svejnar and Prašnikar for their contributions, and to all members of the IMB community who joined us.
