Student Visit to Kabaj Winery: Bridging Academic Insight and International Business Practice
Student Visit to Kabaj Winery: Bridging Academic Insight and International Business Practice
On April 3, 2026, 45 students enrolled in the course How to Do Business with China and International Business, led by Professor Gregor Pfajfar and Assistant Professor Zhonghui Ding, took part in a study visit to Kabaj Winery in the Goriška Brda region.
The group was warmly received by the winery’s owners Mr. Jean Michel Morel and Mrs. Katja Kabaj, who are actively engaged in both winemaking and hospitality management. During the visit, they provided an in-depth overview of the winemaking heritage of Goriška Brda, the evolution of their family business, and their guiding work-life philosophy. The experience included a comprehensive guided tour of the winery’s cellars, offering students direct exposure to production processes and business operations.
As part of the visit, students from the How to Do Business with China course presented the findings of their research on the Chinese wine market. Their analysis was shared with the winery’s management as well as with Jerneja Celigoj, an independent senior business consultant responsible for overseeing Kabaj’s activities in Asian markets. The presentation provided valuable insights into consumer trends, market entry considerations, and strategic positioning in China.
Building on this engagement, students from the International Business course will continue their work by analyzing market potential and developing entry strategies for ten additional markets across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. This ongoing project aims to integrate academic frameworks with real-world business challenges, further strengthening students’ applied international business competencies.
