How does European Banking Supervision function?
How does European Banking Supervision function?
We had the privilege of meeting Ms Claudia M. Buch, Chair of the Supervisory Board of the European Central Bank, and Mr Dominique Laboureix, Chair of the Single Resolution Board. Their insights into the role of European banking supervision, the development of the Single Supervisory Mechanism, and the challenges facing supervisors in an increasingly complex risk environment provided an excellent perspective on the future of the European banking sector.
The discussion was particularly relevant as we prepare to begin our research project in August, focusing on investment activity and financing in Slovenia. With banks playing a crucial role in supporting economic growth and innovation, the topic resonates strongly with current challenges highlighted in the latest OECD findings, including the persistent financing gap faced by SMEs across Slovenia and Europe.
It was also a pleasure to meet the leadership of Banka Slovenije, including Vice-Governor Marko Pahor. Engaging with practitioners and policymakers who are directly shaping the European financial landscape is an invaluable learning experience.
Thank you to Banka Slovenije for hosting this insightful event and for fostering dialogue on some of the most important issues facing European banking and financial stability today.
