Brief description
Flux 4.0 – Managing Flows for Sustainable Tourism is a national research and development programme aimed at developing a new generation of data-driven solutions for sustainable and resilient tourism management. It brings together leading Slovenian research organisations and companies to develop advanced data models, responsible artificial intelligence, digital twins of destinations and geoinformation solutions.
The aim of the programme is to establish a comprehensive data ecosystem that will enable a better understanding and forecasting of tourist flows, monitoring of the impacts of tourism, more effective destination management, and support for decision-making at local, regional and national levels. Particular attention is paid to reducing tourism’s environmental footprint, crisis management and communication, the circular economy, and improving the tourist experience through the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
The key deliverables will be the Flux 4.0 platform and a prototype of a digital twin for tourism. These solutions will integrate data from various sources, including real-time data, and enable simulations, forecasting and decision-making support for various stakeholders in the Slovenian tourism ecosystem.
The School of Economics and Business at the University of Ljubljana is leading the thematic package dedicated to developing solutions for crisis response and communication in tourism. Activities include analysing existing systems and best practices, mapping data sources and identifying gaps, developing a conceptual model for crisis communication and response, and preparing an integration strategy and recommendations for stakeholders.
The operation is co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund. The operation is being implemented under the European Cohesion Policy Programme for the period 2021–2027 in Slovenia, Policy Objective 1: A more competitive and smarter Europe by promoting innovative and smart economic transformation and regional connectivity in the field of ICT; Priority 1: An innovative knowledge society; Specific Objective RSO1.1: Developing and improving research and innovation capacity and introducing advanced technologies.
