This course emphasises the synthesis of economic theory, decision sciences, and the various fields of business administration studies. It examines how they interact with one another as the firm attempts to reach optimal managerial decisions in the face of constraints. A special emphasis will be on how managerial decisions are actually reached in the real world. The course will increase the effectiveness of decision making by expanding and sharpening the analytical framework use by managers to make decisions.

The course carefully examines the dual environmental aspects that companies operate in. The first part of the course focuses on the company, primarily the questions of professional responsibilities of “developers”, business ethics and the role of corporations in society. The second part examines the external environment in which companies operate, how they are therefore affected, and how their performance depends on whether the business environment is conducive to business growth. Course topics cover the environment as defined by institutions, stakeholders, and different country settings (such as national competitiveness). We define the macroeconomic and microeconomic environment in line with their respective policies. We also address broader social policies and their impact on the quality of a business environment, placing special emphasis on technological development and the challenges that emerge from globalisation. The political context is also addressed.

The course will cover different economic concepts and contemporary issues, transition theory and practice, key concepts such as GNP measure of economic activity, aggregate expenditure, GDP determination, aggregate supply, economic growth, inflation, unemployment, the fundamentals of monetary economics, and other economic policies.

This extensive intermediate-level corporate finance course is designed to first provide in-depth knowledge of financial fundamentals. It then extends to the main strategic financial and investment decisions (capital budgeting, capital structure, dividend policy, and working capital policy) and respective operating decisions. The third part of the course builds on analytical models and logic learned earlier, focusing on developing the necessary skills for problem-solving in respective areas of corporate finance through the use of comprehensive guided case studies.

This course aims to understand the theory and practice of management in various organisational settings within the context of the 21st century environment. Management entails coordinating tasks to achieve set objectives and is defined as the creative problem-solving process applied to planning, organising, leading, and controlling resources.

The primary purpose of this course is to enable participants to understand the meaning of contemporary marketing, including its concepts, methodologies and management in market-orientated firms. Through such an approach, students can learn about marketing planning, decision making, and the management of marketing processes in both local and global markets.

The course combines core strategic management concepts with intermediate and advanced topics. It covers certain aspects of corporate-level strategy (diversification, mergers and acquisitions, core competences), as well as business-level strategy (sources and forms of competitive advantage). Additionally, it explores strategy implementation, strategic control with contemporary approaches to performance measurement, and some specifics for nonprofit organisations.

In today’s global economy, any firm in the manufacturing or the service sector needs to have a sound operations strategy to survive. Firms that can develop core operational capabilities often gain a strong advantage over their competitors. This course introduces students to essential concepts and techniques for designing, planning, controlling and improving service and manufacturing operations, with a strong emphasis on supply chain management. You  will gain both quantitative and qualitative tools to analyse operations and supply chain processes. The first part of the course covers the key topics for effective supply chain management, such as the value of information in achieving coordinated supply chain networks, the importance of aligning product and supply chain design, and the concept of lead time in selecting the right logistics strategy. The second part will be devoted to demand forecasting and inventory management in companies facing uncertain market demand, where concepts of risk pooling, supply contracts and distribution strategies are discussed. Classic examples, discussed through business simulation games and case studies, include industries and companies such as Wal-Mart, Amazon, Barilla, Dell Computers, Hewlett-Packard, Apple, Zara and others.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to read and analyse financial statements; distinguish between various types of costs and understand both traditional and activity-based costing systems. They will be able to compute costs by using different costing systems; calculate the break-even point, perform cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis, and understand the impact of corporate strategy on management accounting. The course will also cover contemporary management tools related to performance management.

This course is based on the premise that decisions about managing people make a difference: the choices you make as a manager not only affect your own success but also employee behaviours, performance, wellbeing, focus on customer satisfaction, sense of fairness, and ultimately, the efficiency and effectiveness of the entire organisation. Therefore, how organisations manage their human resources is an important element of organisational success. At the same time, the HRM function should support employees in developing their potential and translating it into achieving strong performance and positive career outcomes. In this course, we will present various HRM activities, methods and techniques used for managing people, and explain the link between HRM practices and both organisational and individual employee performance.

The aim of this course is to equip participants with both basic and advanced concepts, methods, and information technology tools related to business decision-making. Upon completion, participants will be able to understand the importance of decision support systems, how they can be used within an organisation, and how to use methods and software tools for business decision-making.

The course introduces students to the research process in business studies, providing an overview of key concepts, methods, and techniques. In addition, students will gain an advanced understanding of research methods—not just techniques—and develop essential research skills. The course also shows practical applications and prepares students for their Master’s thesis.
