- To alert potential family entrepreneurs about the role in the family business and the need for career planning.
- To get familiar with the specifics of family businesses.
- To train successors in family businesses for successful leaders of a family firm.

1. Definition of family business. The role of family businesses abroad
and in Slovenia
2. Family entrepreneur, business and family
2.1. Characteristics and dynamics of family businesses: cultural
intertwining, values and goals for family and business, advantages /
disadvantages of family businesses
2.2. Key relationships in the family firm: founders, children - heirs, firms
with multiple family owners, non-family employees in family firms
2.3. Potential sources of conflicts in family businesses
3. Family business development
3.1. Characteristics of growth attitudes in family businesses
3.2. Dilemmas of financing in family businesses
3.3. Characteristics in the development of family business strategies
3.4. Motivation and remuneration in family businesses
4. Succession in family businesses
4.1. Planning the succession in family businesses
4.2. Introducing new generation: choosing and preparing heirs,
employing heirs, motivating and promoting heirs, transfering the
managerial powers
4.3. Transfer of ownership of family firms to the new generation: legal,
financial, tax issues, alternative forms of the transfer
5. Counselling to family firms
