Aims of the course

- Understanding the role of regulation of financial markets and institutions
- acquaintance with key characteristics of regulation of different financial sectors

Course syllabus

1. The primary mission of financial markets" regulation and overseeing is to protect small investors, who are exposed to different risks in different segments of financial market.
2. For example: banks guarantee for the deposits, while investing in stocks or bonds come with no such promises. Regulation and overseeing of banking sector and capital markets should therefore be different, even though it may overlap in certain aspects.
3. The purpose of this course is to introduce the logic of regulation and overseeing of financial markets and to analyze the main methods of regulation and overseeing.
