Ethical and Social Issues in Sport

Aims of the course

- To inform students about the discussed topics of the course.
- To acquaint students with the study literature and enable them for its critical evaluation and professional use in their studies.
- To qualify students for the successful preparation of a written seminar project about the selected topic.
- To qualify students for scientific/methodological consideration of professional issues in theory and practice.
- To develop the abilities and skills of communication with each other.

Course syllabus

1. Ethics in sport (paying attention to ethical codes, ethics as the basis for establishing good relationships in the group)
2. Psychological preparation (topics of conversation between a sport psychologist and the athlete, tension, focusing, the importance of functional thinking, precompetitive routines)
3. Psychologist as a member of a professional sport team (roles of team members, good communication between team members)
4. Groups and group characteristics (development of groups, group roles)
5. Social influence (types of social power, classical experiments of social influence and their use in today's world)
6. Sociological aspects of sports (definition of the role of sport in social integration)
7. Sociological aspects of top sports (studying of top sport events, athletes and sport organizations and their influence on the society)
8. Sociological aspects of leisure time in relation to sports (sport activities can act as social glue for people of different ages, genders and ethnical groups; developing interpersonal relationships and exchange of experience through sport events)
