Tourism Economics and Tourism Policy

Aims of the course

Familiarize students with the concept of tourism economics and policy.
Show economic functions, economic instruments, development of instruments of tourism policy and its power.
Develop knowledge for shaping and use of tourism policy instruments on the cases from practice, with respect of the limitations from broader environment. Train students to use theoretical knowledge on practical examples.

Needs and benefits – implications for public policy.
Human rights and citizenship rights – connection to tourism policy.

Issues and challenges in tourism policy making.
Tourism policymaking in EU.
Strategic planning.
Evaluating approaches to planning for leisure, sport and tourism.
Consultation in policy making/planning.
