Aims of the course

- Students gain knowledge on how to apply economic theory to the analysis of energy markets and environmental problems related to energy sector.

- Students are acquainted with the theory and practice of liberalisation and regulation of energy markets and current state and problems related to liberalisation and regulation of energy sector.

2. Restructuring of energy sectors: market structure, organisation and ownership
3. Liberalisation and regulation of energy markets
4. Analysis of energy
sectors in the world and the EU:
- World oil market
- Electricity industry
- Natural gas industry

5. Analysis of electricity markets:
- Supply and demand
- Wholesale market
- Retail market
- Balancing market
- Electricity trading
- Risk management
6. Energy and environment:
- Kyoto protocol and GHG emissions trading
- Promotion of renewable energy sources (RES)
- Energy efficiency
7. New trends and business models in the energy sector
