NINA ABRAHAMSBERG

Country: Slovenia

Undergrad degree:

University of Ljubljana, School of Economics and Business, International Business

Why this specialisation?

I chose the program mostly because of its international orientation. As I am going to complete the undergraduate program focused on international business, I am highly motivated to deepen my knowledge about the topic even more. Each of the three years of studies were more and more intriguing and engaging, especially the last, third year, which absorbed me fully with the cases and examples from real business world. IMB offers similar but even better learning experience, including actual company visits, attending conferences and other interactions with real and successful businesses. Moreover, as I am keen on getting to know new people as well as travelling, I believe that IMB complements my interests and goals.

5 words that describe you best:

Optimistic, organized, committed, curious, advantageous.

Strengths:

I am self-motivated, organized and flexible; therefore, I enjoy working in teams. I am also aware of the program intensity and consequently the strong work ethic that is required for completing the programme.

My proudest achievement:

My proudest achievement is completing my undergraduate program, despite my health problems during first and second year. Spending a lot of time in the hospital meant a lot of missed lectures, practices and seminars, which are all quite necessary for successfully passing all the courses. Fortunately, my health improved with time, and I managed to pass all the required exams, though with a slightly lower average grade. In any case, special thanks go to many of my classmates, who have been willing to help even during the most stressful times. This is also one of the reasons why I am so attached to the school and motivated to apply to the IBM Programme.

LAURA BREČKO

Country: Slovenia

Undergrad degree:

University of Ljubljana, School of Economics and Business, International Business

Why this specialisation?

I am excited about the best of both worlds that this program has to offer me. I prefer to study in Slovenia due to personal reasons, while still gaining that international experience that I am longing for. IMB offers me the ability to satisfy my wish to study among highly ambitious and driven equals, who motivate me to perform my best and be an outstanding team player as I realize that only together one can go far. Another reason for selection of IMB Masters is that it is not as specific as some other courses offered by the School of Economics and business Ljubljana. I am an “I want to know it all” kind of person. Not only that I want to obtain an advanced global perspective on finance, but I also want to expand my knowledge in accounting, business strategies and marketing. In today’s ever-changing world, I think it is better to be a generalist rather than a specialist. Let it be switching job posts more frequently or leading your own company. IMB has it all. It will give me the necessary foundations that are attractive to global brands as well as boost my employability to progress to a strategic level in the future. For all this reasons, I want the SEB LU to be my ally.

5 words that describe you best:

Optimist, ambitious, leader, extrovert, perfectionist.

Strengths:

One of my key strengths is my optimism, which translates into me being enthusiastic and motivated about task at hand. Consequently, such a positive attitude enables me to work effectively with clients or to be a supporting part of a team on school group projects. In fact, during my work customers often request to schedule an in-person visit on the days that I am at work. In addition to being a highly effective communicator, I am very self-disciplined and have great time management and organisational skills. I never miss the deadline, for instance, and working on group projects I always set internal deadlines before the actual one and do regular check-ups on how other team members are progressing with their work.

My proudest achievement:

My proudest professional achievement is completing the last year of my bachelor’s degree in a foreign language with the GPA of approximately 9.5 while also working two jobs. Such a strong focus on my goals has taught me how to prioritize my time and build exceptional work habits that can bring me a huge advantage in life. I am really excited to perfect those competencies on a graduate level.

IMB student profiles

EMINA HUSIĆ

Country: Bosnia and Herzegovina

Undergrad degree:

University of Ljubljana, School of Economics and Business, International Business

Why this specialisation?

I have decided to apply to IMB Programme for many reasons, one of them being is that I really like the curriculum, that it is very comprehensive at the beginning, then we get to choose out specialization, and I really like Marketing specialization. I really like the hands-on approach, since I believe that the best way to learn is by doing that and going through it personally and going through it with a team makes it even more exciting. Mentorship programme, a lot of international guest lecturers, and very close relationships with alumni, professors, and businesspeople is very appealing to me as well. Also, the whole idea of everyone, including students, to be a part of a “big family” makes me feel like everyone truly belongs and has a purpose there.

5 words that describe you best:

It is kind of challenging to describe myself in five words only, but I would choose ambitious, brave, creative, outgoing, and perfectionist (slightly stubborn sometimes) to describe myself.

Strengths:

My strengths come from different places and experiences from my life. I think I am a smart and fast-learning person, with a lot of motivation and courage to make a difference in the world. Everything I do, I will do perfectly by paying attention to every little detail. I think I am a creative person, who I am expressing through different arts and crafts, but also though creating different digital products. I think I am very brave person, who is not afraid to take the necessary steps towards reaching a bigger goal, of simply towards my general happiness. I like to communicate, collaborate and work with other people, which makes me a very good team member. I speak a lot of languages (more precisely 7 languages), which help me express myself better, because that is very important to me and to everyone I have ever collaborated with. I have strong opinions, but I would always listen to the other side and objectively assess the situation at hand.

My proudest achievement:

I like to believe that I have many notable accomplishments from different aspects of my life, but as the biggest achievement I would single out is me relocating my entire life, primarily for the purpose of education, at the age of 18. After I graduated from High school, I decided to come to Ljubljana and to study at School of Economics and Business. And in the course of two weeks, I have packed my entire life and moved from Sarajevo, away from my whole family, my friends, and left the city that I love. Regardless of everything I think that this big and sudden change has forced me to learn very fast how to appropriately take care of myself, fight for myself, and simply to live by myself.

IMB student profiles

NIKA PODPESKAR

Country: Slovenia

Undergrad degree:

University of Ljubljana, School of Economics and Business, International Business

Why this specialisation?

When I started to attend the classes at SEB LU, I saw the signs for IMB and was always curious what it is. It wasn't until a few days later that I found out what a great renown the program has and how high it ranks. After that I started asking the students that have already completed the program, about their satisfaction with this master’s program, and not a single bad thing came up. As a person, who has worked on numerous projects and loves to work with similarly hardworking people, it was therefore a no-brainer to choose a program that would enable me to continue to work in an international environment not on fictional, but real-life scenarios and equip me with the right qualifications to enter the labour market.

5 words that describe you best:

An ambitious, curious, positive, hardworking team player with a growth mindset.

Strengths:

Completing my bachelor's degree in an international class (both in Slovenia and Denmark), as well as organizing events for the foreign markets, has had an enormous impact not only on my interpersonal and communication skills, but also the ability to quickly adapt to the presented situation and listen people around me from different cultures especially carefully, gaining the strength in understanding their positions and points of view. I will not lie, sometimes all of us classmates did not agree 100%, but through the cultural and respectful debate, we always managed to come to an agreement and a compromise, suitable for all. I have learned that one-size-fits all absolute solutions are very rare and that respect, widely open ears, and willingness to sometimes take a step back from your position to be taught some new things are always a step in the right direction

My proudest achievement:

Very successfully organized the largest Slovenian student marketing conference Fanfara in the middle of COVID-19 pandemic after more than one year of preparations. And also, a few months ago, my team and I won the first prize at the Kadrovski šprint hackathon – in less than 24 hours, we managed to come up with the most innovative solution to the Lidl’s employment problem, and I am proud to say that some of the suggested practices have already been implemented in their everyday operations.

ANDREW POTTRUFF

Why this specialisation?

I first learned about the IMB program from two of your alumni. I met them socially while I was visiting family in Ljubljana, and they spoke glowingly of their experience and the level of education they received while studying at IMB. Moreover, both of these alumni went on to great international success in their chosen fields of finance and management. After speaking with them comprehensively about the IMB, I knew that a program such as yours would be a great fit for me should I ever choose to pursue a career outside the arts. When I decided to pivot away from being a professional musician, I knew I had to apply for the IMB.Specifically, I appreciate the diverse curriculum covered throughout the three semesters of your IMB. It seems like students are truly exposed to the full range of integral business practices. Specialisation can be important in the working world but being prepared for many facets of business greatly appeals to me. I’m also excited by the three projects offered through the IMB lab, as well as the Portoroz business conference. These kinds of hands-on, real-world learning and net working opportunities are exactly the kinds of educational environments that I thrive in.

5 words that describe you best:

Inquisitive, creative, empathetic, passionate, driven.

Strengths:

Excellent communicator: In my opinion, one of the most important skills in both ones professional and personal life is communication skills. Whether it be communicating with your romantic partner, your family, your business colleagues, or your business clients, the ability to disseminate the most pertinent and salient information as clearly, efficiently, and intelligibly as possible is vital to positive interactions. Not only am I strong at oral communication, I’m also a strong written communicator. I pride myself on being a clear speaker, an excellent writer, and a great listener. Often, when people think about communication skills, they’re often referring to their own ability to express themselves. This is only half the requirements of being a good communicator. Equally important to good communication skills is the ability to listen carefully and generously when someone is communicating to you. I am also excellent at this part of the equation.

My proudest achievement:

For the past few years, I’ve worked as a classical music teacher, instructing students in voice, music theory, and composition. During this time, I’ve guided over 100 children and adults through the joys of musical discovery and artistic expression. When I was younger, I never pictured myself as a potential teacher. I had many diverse interests, but being an educator was not one of them; however, watching children and adults find personal fulfilment and meaning through musical expression has been a profoundly rewarding experience

TAMARA TEŠOVIĆ

Country: Montenegro

Undergrad degree:

University of Donja Gorica, Faculty of Information Systems and Technology, Systems and Technology

Why this specialisation?

During my undergraduate studies, I have discovered my preference for the subjects of economics and business, thanks to the many business classes I had in the curriculum. As much as I love my job and enjoy programming, I would prefer to be in the room where business decisions are made instead of just writing code. This led me to search for master’s programs in business, and my achievements so far gave me the confidence to aim for the best ones. Of course, I searched on the internet first and discovered IMB. I chose it for two reasons, besides the stellar reputation, of course – one is the concept of studies itself and the amount of teamwork involved; I would love nothing more than to work in a team of people who are there because of their skills and ambition, who would genuinely care about the projects as much as I would and have the support of such expert lecturers. The other is the challenging experience that is studying at IMB – I truly thrive under pressure and everything I have read about IMB and heard on Open day promises a challenge I would be excited to undertake and honored to complete. I know that the program that requires me to work extremely hard is the program that will give me what I am looking for – knowledge and skills to become the professional I want to be

5 words that describe you best:

Tactician, versatile, reliable, ambitious, resourceful.

Strengths:

People consider me a problem-solver, the person they go to with tasks no one else knows how to resolve. I do not claim to know the answers half the time, but I know how to research and improvise, I am resourceful and will do everything I can to find a way. I am told by colleagues they feel more at ease when I am on their team, because they know they can rely on me. Moreover, I tend to be the one who stays calm and rational in a crisis, which helps avert it. All of this has always made me a valuable addition to teams I worked with. I am content working alone as well but feel more fulfilled being part of a group and contributing to the cause.

My proudest achievement:

My proudest achievement is getting selected for the Global UGRAD program. This prestigious exchange program is funded by the U.S. State Department and aims to bring outstanding students with demonstrated leadership potential from over 60 countries to the U.S. universities. It is hard to get selected, especially since they choose only one student per semester from a country as small as Montenegro. Being selected among hundreds of applicants is the product of all the achievements I have accomplished over the years, both in and out of class.

ANA TOPOLŠEK

Why this specialisation?

IMB is for ambitious people, and I definitely am one of them. I believe IMB Programme will give me the opportunity to have the best possible career I can have in the future. It will be a challenge, but it will prepare me for the "real" business world. Nevertheless, I would be lying if I said it wasn't just a little bit because of the "prestige" as well.

During that experience I discovered many things about myself and one of those things was that I like to see the bigger picture, which I think the IMB Programme is all about. I found out about IMB from a friend who was an IMB student some generations ago.

NICOLE VICENTIC

Country: Canada

Undergrad degree:

McMaster University, Technology

Why this specialisation?

After attending the IMB open house it confirmed why I am applying to the IMB program, intimacy of the class size, real-life projects and the alumni community. After completing my bachelor’s degree with the same class size and students through all 4.5 years, I realized that I wanted to apply to a program that had the same idea. I believe it is important to get to know your classmates and create friendships whether it is due to education purposes of external purposes. I believe this allows professors and lectures to focus more on the intimate group when presenting and assisting with additional help or broadening their knowledge. Furthermore, the real-life projects are very important to me because it facilitates my leaderships skills and future collaboration opportunities. By having real-life projects in the program, it allows you to experience the field that you make like or dislike and other potential opportunities to explore. It is a great opportunity for an insight into your future

5 words that describe you best:

In five words, I would describe myself as: resilient, confident, strong, considerate, and determined. With resilience, I found myself highly motivated in regards to setting goals and aspirations. I ensure I detect and attract positive and motivational asp

Strengths:

Communication is one of my key strengths, as I am able to build trust, prevent or resolve issues, provide clarity and direction, and continuously form new relationships. With this, direction is a key strength of mine as it allows me to reduce time, resolve misunderstandings, and enables genuine interactions with individuals. With the current role I have expanded a 280-person contact list by 40% in >2 years by visiting 7 sustainability conferences to connect and create relationships with 3+ F500 organisations by sending relevant information leading to facilitated growth. I have created relationships through these opportunities which has allowed me to learn and educate myself more about the role I am in today. Through the strength of direction, leadership continues to be a growing strength of mine as motivation is present within workplace or organisational settings. Leadership creates good performance within these environments along with good guidance, harmonization, and enthusiasm. I work with three program leads and my boss, who have over twenty years of industry experience. I have shown that I am able to bring my fresh ideas to the table and take the lead with a full support system.

My proudest achievement:

My proudest achievement was living in Italy for three months. I had an opportunity through an agency I found on McMaster University, to teach English in Italy. It was my first time going to explore a country alone, without my family or friends – and I was very excited! While being in Italy, I have discovered the importance of balancing your life with work and putting your happiness and wellbeing in first place. This is where my love for food, history, art and architecture sparked. I had an opportunity to make a change within their community by teaching English, as well as build my own character. Italy has taught me the importance of compassion. Being surrounded by people who love food has taught me the importance of bringing people together, it is a vehicle for sharing culture and passion. I stayed with a family at the time and realized how much food has a social impact in their culture. Food is tied to tradition and memories, and many people do not realize the importance of bringing everyone together. I realized during my time alone, that I will always bring that idea and work it into my life.
